Kurilsky Nature Reserve
Kurilsky State Nature Reserve is the first nature reserve in Sakhalin Region.
The nature reserve was established on 10 February 1984 in order to preserve the unique nature of the islands that is important for both science and economy and for restoration of various plant and animal species.

Territory
The territory of the nature reserve comprises three areas: two of them are on Kunashir Island, the third one is on the Dyomina Islands and the Oskolki Islands.
The area of the nature reserve is 659 square kilometers (0,75% of Sakhalin Region).

Malye Kurily State Refuge (679 square kilometers) is managed by Kurilsky State Nature Reserve.

Kurilsky State Nature Reserve Federal State Budgetary Institution is led by a director designated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation.
The director manages the institution. He is in charge of his deputies and chief accountant who manage staff.
